Crossroads Insurance Benefits is a family-owned insurance agency started in the early 1990s and was formerly known as Walters Insurance Services. The business has operated primarily through referrals, and the amount of referral business is evidence of our agency’s reputation as one that will go the extra mile for a client.
We intend to remain independent, family-owned, and service-oriented. Clients have no need to contact the insurance company (other than paying their invoice)! We handle all service issues such as claims, employee changes, and other administrative issues that may arise. Our service orientation has been and will continue to be the most important part of our strategy as we continue to grow.
We know the value and comfort that insurance offers people, and we try to proactively offer people what they need. Sometimes people do not know what they need, and it is our job as professionals to fill the role of a consultant to help educate people about their options. We currently serve over 400 individual clients and approximately 100 employer groups ranging in size from 2 employees to over 300 employees. Our group clients include a wide range of industries such as accounting firms, trucking companies, general contractors, landscaping companies, animal clinics, churches, paint contractors, specialty retailers, restaurants, towns, dealerships, plumbers, law firms, and other financial professionals. Being independent (as opposed to captive with one insurance company) is truly a benefit to our clients. With the rising costs of healthcare and other insurance, this independence allows us to align our interests with the interests of our clients. For example, if a carrier increases premiums beyond an average amount, we do not hesitate to find the best rate for comparable coverage for our clients upon the annual renewal (or sooner if necessary).
Joe Stafford, MBA
Joe took over the day-to-day operations of the agency in 2003. His tax background provides a unique advantage in the current health insurance market due to constant changes involving health savings accounts (HSAs), health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs), and other important tools available to employers and employees. He received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis. This education has trained him to look at business issues from a variety of angles, and he enjoys the consulting role that comes along with selling insurance. His caring and consultative approach has earned him recognition from Dave Ramsey as an endorsed local provider of health insurance.
